Every manager across the organization has a distinct way of perceiving a processing the environment. The researchers have indicated that the responses of distinct individuals are different events for the same stimuli within the environment due to the differences of individual nature (Wang et al., 2014). It is defined that the perception is the process in which the environmental information is selected and organized by the perceiver to develop meaningful experiences.
It is to consider that the primary part of the perception is an attribution which implies utilization of the information from observation for enabling the individual to both understand and rationalize the behaviours of other individuals (Tannenbaum et al., 2013). The attribution theory suggests the models and systems that are implemented by the individuals for making attributions about other’s behaviour (Bos‐Nehles et al., 2013). Therefore, it suggests that the information related to the social environment is used for explaining the behaviour of another individual (Vernon, 2014). However, the fundamental attribution error has resulted in development of more recent theories due to the common bias exhibited by people within the attribution.
The correspondent inference theory developed by Edward Jones and Keith Davis implies that the people are able to learn about another person through the freely chosen behaviour. This implies that behaviours are not anticipated and results in limited outcomes of favourable nature (Sherman and Stroessner, 2015). Thus, it is suggested by this theory that three factors are applied by the individuals and managers as fundamental to the inferences.
The three factors are elaborated below:
Individual’s degree of choice
Underlying motivations of behavioural consequences
According to the literature review, the perception plays a central role within the organization. The researchers have established that the perception impacts the behaviour of the individuals across the organizations (Olins, 2017). It has been identified by the authors that wrongful articulation of the social perceptions by the managers results in variety of problems. The social perception of the manager towards the employees can impact the level of motivation across the workforce to a great extent (Noe et al., 2014).
