Research conducted in the workplace indicates that on an average 41 percent or more of the employee’s report workplace tensions and in particular issues such as absence because of non-fatal illness, etc. are on the rise. There is also evidence to indicate that workplace stress issues are costing employees more in the current times (D’Mello, 2012). Stress issues for the employees will have an impact on the employer in a more direct and indirect ways. For instance, employees who might take a leave of absence in order to handle the workplace related tensions might end up having issues with job satisfaction. They would be expensive for organizations, as organizations might end up paying for their health care costs and the increased separation from work during these terms of absence adds to issues for the organization. High levels of stress on employees also have negative ethical implications and result in the deterioration of the morale of the company. Anxiety and job performance are interconnected and reduced job performance is observed in many research studies (Ford, et al, 2011).
