As an international student who has been observing the different paradigms of media systems, the distinctiveness of each media system can be observed. From this perspective, it can be understood that in the current systems that is high level of technological interventions, and the advent of social media in communications and media has caused a radical change in the communities. While considering about France and USA, it has become evident that France news media is biased and is found to favour the oligarchy and high levels of partisan views. Nevertheless, there is also a change in the dynamics of the US media (Rodny-Gumede, 2015)… There has been a rise in the number of voices being echoed in the media. This has caused considerable impact on the way the news is presented. There are also high levels of commercialization of the media and more autonomy has been given to the press. From this the reasons as to why Hallin and Mancinepropose liberal media to becoming convergent media can be understood. Heuristics of the process can be understood. However Nielson points to the inherent issues of not considering certain variables in this equation. This has leads to understanding of the issues.
Hence Nielson approach seem to be pragmatic as it draws from H and M frame work but also adds to the gaps in addressing the vulnerabilities of each system.
To conclude Hallin and Mancine framework are found to be essential in understanding of the media system. Using this framework France and USA media systems has been probed. USA media system is considered to be a liberal media system. There is more convergence in this system based on Hallin and Mancine. In the case of France there was a different dynamic that has been observed between the state and the press. There is influence of the oligarchy views and partisan private views are found to be evident. This has been observed from analysis of the news media. This news media was analysed in this report even though new technologies of media were developed was because the same patterns are observed. This liberal model is found to lead towards convergence. However Nielson points out that there are some inherent issues in this Hallin and Mancine frame work. Owing to this there is a need to factor in three more variables. From a personal standpoint this addendum to the existing framework seems to be feasible and more pragmatics. Convergence and divergence is needed in the society to present the information in the media in a holistic manner.
