Remember The Titans movie is based on a real life story happening within a high school football team that tries to overcome challenges in order to win the Football Championship in 1971. The movie revolves around several leadership theories imparted by the players to take over the match. Each team leader is exposed to a range of challenges. However, each one does maintain cohesiveness within the team by adopting relevant organizational culture theories and team work theories to collaborate and succeed together. This paper analyzes various leadership theories and instances from the movie that support the team and organizational strategies.
Coach Boone is undoubtedly a good leader. His leadership is transactional at the end of the movie. Still, at various times, he makes use of transformational leadership to get things done. For the team building activities and to avoid racial segregation, he motivates the team with relevant transactions (Bosselut et al, 2012). Throughout the movie, situational leadership does exist at all times. The team players were initially low in terms of both confidence and capabilities. S1 leadership style was used when the relationship is poor. S2 was applied when willingness is high but the capabilities are limited. Boone used S3 when tasks are low but the relationship is high. This is a clue of supportive leadership style.
For the welfare of the team, Boone also coordinated with Yoast and this tenet showed his adaptability. At various times, Boone believed that he had to change based on the interests of the team and this was possible only when he was ready to prove himself and also to connect with others emotionally as well as physically. Boone was also a convincing leader though he made use of brutal and boot camp approach. He brought the transformation among the team players by instilling confidence within them.
