The focal statistics tool is used in order to perform the neighboring operation which may help in the effective computation of the raster in which the values for each and every output cell may be determined to be the function of any specific input cells which may be specified in the neighborhood around that specific location. Thus, when the execution of the algorithm is carried out, it visits each and every cell in the raster. After this, the specific statistics is calculated.
The statistics which is to be calculated in this research paper is the land and water ratio. This will have to analyze the % of land which has submerged into water. The cell which is used for the purpose of calculation of the statistics may be referred to as the processing cell (Fry, Brian, et al 70). The value for each of the processing cell and the neighborhood cell can be the part of the calculation which is related to focal statistics. There may also be the condition in which the neighborhood may be the part of the neighborhood of another processing cell. The land to water ratio can be done with the help of the focal statistics calculation (Kindinger et al, 2013).
