Tyler Shultz has been working in this company Theranos since the last eight months. He is the grandson of the Former Secretary of State, the Director of Theranos, George Shultz. The legal fees of his grandfather ranged from $400,000 to $500,000. Hence, Tyler Shultz has a backing from his family in terms of his position in the organization. He was viewed by the President of the company as a treasured employee only because of his grandfather. Tyler Shultz was a 26 years-old lad who was among the employees working at Theranos (Laasch and Conaway, 2014). He was the only one who tried to voice his opinions regarding the happenings and problems of the company in which Tyler had acted morally. He was the first one to whistle blow the information as a state regulator depicting his organizational commitment. According to Tyler, one of the main reasons as to why he wanted to disclose the position and the doings of the company were mainly to protect the health of the patients and also to secure and maintain the reputation of his grandfather (Chell et al., 2014). It was Tyler who contacted the New York state’s public health lab and alleged Theranos that the company has manipulated a process which is known as proficiency testing which was relied on by both the federal as well as the state regulators in terms of the monitoring and evaluating the lab tests.
This is one of the first complaints which were regulatory in nature concerning the lab practices at Theranos (Rollinson, 2008). It was Theranos who accused Tyler of leaking confidential secrets of the trade and even went to the extent of violating the confidentiality norms of the company. However, it was observed that after such behavior of Tyler, his grandfather did not share a cordial relation with him. They only contacted or conversed with each other through the legal associates or the lawyers. It was assumed by Tyler that his grandfather will loosen his ties with the company after the truth or the trade secrets will be revealed. To his great dismay, it was observed that his grandfather behaved differently and responded not in the manner which was expected.
