By focusing on the social-political contestations embedded in the use of forest and how cultural understanding of forestry, the research sought to interrogate the issues of nature-society which shapes the application of the development program based on resource. The author also took into consideration how management and use of resources is a place for reproduction and contestation of societal differences like class, gender and caste (Barner and Mathew 2001). Moreover, the implication of these factors was also taken into consideration for the policy development and practice. Ecological conditions are one of the mutually constitutive parts of these processes and based on this the author aimed to explore both empirically and theoretically interrelationships.
The two key theoretical commitments on which the project was based on was: Firstly, it has been argued by the author that all the knowledge is situated and partial. Secondly, constant change in ecosystems and cultures has been conceptualized by the author who recognizes that there is a complex and dynamic relationship amongst the land and the community. In terms of methodology, it was forced to the author to think by the consequences of research design of incomplete knowledge of these prices and the analysis of the complex change.
In a non-positivist manner the author has utilized the aerial photo interpretation by means of refusing the generated maps which told the true story behind the change in forest. The author has problematized the authoritative statues of quantitative methods in this specific context together with the notion that qualitative data renders an important and authentic resource.
