Support was gained by Democrats of the north and west farmers, labour forces and immigrants of Catholic nature along with some business operators who were in opposition to the civil war. Democrats always supported lower tariff and conservative policies of economic nature with a tendency of opposing reforms like prohibitions.
One of the most influencing policies was given by Harry Truman which is the foreign policy. His doctrine marked the containment policy implementation. He also proclaimed that the U.S could intervene for providing support of economic and military nature for Turkey and Greece, whose citizens were making an attempt of taking over. The doctrine significantly states that U.S can provide support for nations that resist communist approaches.
In this manner, the U.S sought towards stopping communism to spread but maintaining goal on simple containment. Other example of a president is FDR (Franklin Delano Roosevelt) who was able to implement several innovative policies that helped in pulling U.S away from economic crisis. These policies till now have provided U.S with stability of future and economic prosperity. The greatest of all as per my personal perception was Roosevelt in terms of his wisdom, courage, determination, vision and even judgement. The worst of them is George W. Bush who failed his presidency miserably especially due to the events that took place under his presidency such as the 9/11 attack.
