Canadian culture boasts of freedom of expression, freedom of speech, an open debate about sensitive matters, and a healthy dispute and handling of issues that matter society. The life is outgoing, the dress code is more stylish and varied, men and women are free to choose their partners, and even gay rights are commendable. These cultural attributes are altogether different from what Muslims are taught. However, Hindus and Sikhs, the other growing religion and cultural group have been more accepting and embracing the principles of freedom, equality, societal harmony and co-existence. Tensions arise, when a particular cultural group rejects Canadian values and instead proposes amending those to fit their beliefs and principles. This is evident in the case in 2015 in Ontario, where a Muslim group rejected to the sex education program in a school, and talked down the acceptance of same-sex marriages (Levin, 2017). Levin (2017) also mentions disagreement between Muslim students’ prayer accommodation in schools where equality is paramount and all kinds of differentiation must be abolished. Unless the demands of a different and migrated culture remain undiluted and reject to be mixed in the larger Canadian culture, multiculturalism shall not reach its desired end.
