The impact of wellness program on absenteeism is observed with an in depth analysis on programs carried out by other organizations so as to understand the potential benefits and pitfalls.
Absenteeism is a serious issue in organization as it affects the productivity and also tarnishes the image of an organization among its stakeholders. It creates a negative impact on the financial growth and sustainability of organization. Absenteeism is a clear indication of lack of health among its employees. Wellness programs are known to counsel such employees on the reasons behind absenteeism and rehabilitation methodologies to cover the leave expenses and retain talents with necessary growth practices.
Wellness programs are meant to educate the employees on the value they add to society and organization on the whole. These programs create transparency and understanding across different levels of people in an organization (Bonner, 1990). Most importantly, it reduces disability hidden in a person that has been the reason for absenteeism. There are different types of wellness programs arranged – health check up, mental rehabilitation program, leave to support a family member due to illness and public education.
