One of the underlying drivers of growth and success for the independent hotels is the extensive capability of customizing not only their customer service but also the interiors and exteriors of the hotel to develop a boutique hotel (Landman, 2017). The focus on aesthetics by the independent hotels have drawn more attention by the consumers due to the authentic experience that is facilitated by the independent hotels instead of an industrious and standardized experience encountered within a chain (Cabañas, 2014). Furthermore, due to the higher bargaining power of the hotel chain, not much margins are provided to the travel companies due to which the travel agencies have focused on the more attractive independent boutique hotels which provide a step ahead experience in luxury hotels and meet the needs of the customers along with improving their personal profit margin (Landman, 2017). This has provided the carefully architecture boutique hotels with the exponential advantage over the established hotel chain. This is because the compliance towards developed standardization in both experience and architecture has prevented the hotel chains to provide an authentic experience which is limited to an individual property (O’Neill and Carlbäck, 2011). However, majority of the chains have developed a similar sense of experience which differentiates the hotel chains from the independent hotels altogether.
