Castle Howard is an example of Baroque art form (Greene, 2013). It is a home in England and is actually an English country house. The house was built as a commission for the Carlisles (Steiner & Sternberg, 2016). It was created by John Vanbrugh. The architecture was seen to be highly decorated with coronets, urns and domes etc. The Baroque style of architecture is a 16th century architectural style. It is a flamboyant style and was seen to include much drama and tensions in these representations. The style was one of its kinds as it was encouraged and commissioned as a practice by even the Catholic Church at the time.
As an architectural style, this was sought by both the royals and the religious forces during the time. A protestant reformation was happening during the time. In the context of the protestant reformation, it was critical to ensure that the Catholic movement had its forms of representations. The Baroque style came in handy here as the Church was able to use it as a response to the growing Protestant transformations. Art was seen to provide flamboyant religious points and at the same time made them more emotions and exaggerated.
The royals of the time were just as closely affiliated with the religious themes and hence it was no surprise that they choose to involve themselves in the artworks more strongly. Baroque style was encouraged by the aristocracy who felt the dramatic style was a proper way to present their architectures (Praz, 1964). The constructions, the grand entrance and many more were presented in Baroque. Baroque, in fact, although incepted in one century, actually finds wider application in others. This is because it was not associated with a generation; rather it was associated with a style that extended beyond the period.
