Each and every department and job role is dependent on that of the other. This poses additional difficulty when implementing changes. It is important to make use of the “lateral leadership” concepts and ensure that everyone is following a single direction. (Kühl, Schnelle & Tillmann, 2005). Alignment towards the objective of change gives impetus to the whole process. Its importance can be understood by the fact that if this process is ignored, it could bring disorder in the organization.
Even if the sense making and sense giving are performed in accordance with the desired changes, there could be several parallel understanding of the process going on in the organization. The objective and expectations from the ongoing changes of different individual or department could be different. If the proper alignment is skipped, then it would be very difficult to make each individual or department to work in unison towards achieving success.
After understanding the need of change, ascertaining its objectives and elaborating the way it would affect each individual or department in an organisation, leader has to act as an enabler. Once the people have been brought in at the same plane of understanding, the leader must set job roles for all to ensure implementation of change. In this role, the leader is supposed to create encouraging environment that the people involved in the changing process contribute towards its success. The leaders must act as an enabler by articulating strategies and organizing during the change implementation (Colville & Murphy, 2006).The entire process must not remain only in theories and conversations, but also materialize. In order to make change implementation a success on the ground level, enablers has to be set in. These could be small tasks and objectives given to the staff by their leaders towards attaining the desired change. Sometimes, people have intention to change towards the betterment of situation but do not have means and ideas as to where to begin from.
