The role of Human Resources Management (HRM) of the hospitality industry is quite different from the other industry as it directly connected with the customers and the customers’ perspectives are instantly collected. Hence, the roles of the employees are vital in this industry and the Human Resources Management (HRM) is more important in this particular industry. The Human Resources Management (HRM) provides a significant contribution to the hospitality industry by effective use of the human resources of the organization (Armstrong, 2007). To use the human resources effectively, there are various unique policies adopted by the Human Resources Management (HRM) of the hospitality industry. Some of them are as follows:
Zero-hour contract: The zero hour contracts are types of contract or agreement between the employer organization and the employees. In this type of contract, the employers are not obliged to give any minimal working hours to the employees, whereas the employees are not obliged to accept any job offered to them. This is the very important policy of the hospitality industry, and the HRM of the hospitality organizations has to apply this policy effectively to improve the profitability of the organization.
Young manager: The industry is a services industry in which customers’ satisfaction is most important. Hence, the industry requires young good looking managers who can efficiently entertain the customers. Hence, the HRM must be careful at the time of recruiting (Armstrong, 2007).
Low qualification: The industry does not require high qualification for the workers. The workers with experience and required skill but consisting of low qualification can also deliver useful services to the customers. Hence, the HRM checks the experience and skills of the candidates instead of qualification.
Seasonality: The hospitality industry is a seasonal business, and the business turnovers are varied between the seasons. During the peak seasons, the industry gets optimum numbers of customers and during lean seasons, there are minimal numbers of customers. Hence, in the peak session require more workers than lean session as comparatively defined. The HRM of the organization has a plan for the Human Resources as per the need.
