Electronic media specifically the Television has been critiqued for a long time by people for their impact on the growing children. The areas of concern for people are that the media exposure impedes the cognitive development of the child. A number of research data suggest that age-appropriate, educational media content enables the children to learn better (Pachman et al., 2016). Exposure to media cannot be halted in the current times. Early exposure has been proven to foster the learning process. Australian Government tries to incorporate the teaching by using the media content (Hogan, 2016). However, there are many debates that are ongoing regarding the pedagogical learning process of the children.
The purpose of the analysis is to understand about the current efforts taken by the government and to critically analyse the impact of the use of media for the teaching practices. From this, the gaps in the current schema would be determined. Future trends and research directions will be developed form this research. As an inception step, the Australian governmental effort in early learning has been detailed in the following. Australian government has tried to incorporate SAMR and TPACK models to bring in holistic learning for all the children. To this structure, it has been eluded that the use of technology would cause children to learn the fundamentals better.
The current trends are the use of mobile technology, the development of integrated learning and the creation of customization application. However, the issues of pedagogy and the issues of technology must be addressed. The development of technology in the learning process tends to skew the existing benefits that arise from conventional teaching practices. The issues of ethics and security impede the development of digital media in learning. The additional costs are involved in this process. The creation of newer technology tends to make the current learning process obsolete. The issues of obsolescence must be factored in the future teaching trends. It is imperative to overcome these challenges. The future research must focus on this aspect as well in order to create a holistic learning process. A balance should be maintained between the pedagogy, learning content and the technology.
