Sweden is one of the high ranking countries in the ratings of gender equality because of its practices. “A fair society is a society in which men and women participate in more or less equal numbers in every sphere of life” (Almqvist, 2010). Men and women in Sweden share equal power and influence. This is possible because the welfare system in Sweden is based on the concept of equal power for the sexes (Official Site of Sweden, 2015). Men and women share power equally because that gives them an easier way to balance both their work and their home life. The country does not rest on its achievements in equality and the Government tries to find new ways to improve gender equality in the welfare state. The modern Swedish society also supports this aim of the welfare state, as they ensure gender equality policies are implemented in all areas in their everyday life. The people and communities support the notion that every individual irrespective of their gender will have the right to support themselves by means of an independent work and that the individual will live without fearing violence in the community. The concept of gender equality that Sweden advocates for is holistic because it does not just consider gender equality as in the context of equal distribution of resources. It also refers to the dimensions of knowledge, qualitative aspects of experience that the Government can guarantee for an individual and others (Official Site of Sweden, 2015).The ‘Global Gender Gap Report of 2013’ names three other countries only (Iceland, Finland and Norway) as belonging to the top indexes when it comes to gender equality (World Economic Forum, 2013). The report presents Sweden in this list which has been compiled based on a careful assessment of how Sweden implements equality in economic, health, politics and educational support.
