Literacy demands of writing depend on the content area that is studied, the discipline, the cultural background of the learner and the learner’s own understanding and command over language (ASCD, 2017). Text structure, words and spelling proficiency are observed to play a huge role when it comes to literacy demands in writing. Basic Interpersonal Communication Skills (BICS) will play a role as people new to the language would need to be accommodated through carefully prepared coursework that addresses their needs (National Centre of Literacy and Numeracy for Adults, 2017). In other scenarios, while some foreign learners have developed skills with language like in the case of BICS, they would still be lacking in English usage in formal situations. They will have language skills to cope up with informal situation, but would be lacking when it comes to foundation or oral language literacy skills. The purpose of this essay is to evaluate and analyse a given unit sequence based on how it has addressed theories, beliefs and principles informing quality planning, teaching, learning and assessment for literacy while considering writing/creating as a multimodal design process. The scaffolding needed to help students in this context has been addressed.
