Art Movement is a style in art that is used in accordance with a specific common goal. It is used by a specific group of artist within the stipulated time period. These movements are used to elucidate certain opinions or goals. When a particular art movement is gaining precedence, there are avant-garde that are found to exist in the movement. The avant-garde is the movement within the art movement that pushes the boundaries of the normative standards associated with the arts. Many of the modern art movements have aligned themselves in accordance to the norms of avant-garde movement. This is an element of the modernism movement (Fer, Batchelor and Wood, 1993). One of the important art movements is the surrealism art movement. This had gained prominence from World War I to World War II. This movement was a response of the art community towards the various wars and atrocities that was occurring during the War. In the Asian communities, Japan was one of the first nations to embrace the surrealism movement.

It is evident that each movement has had an influence on each other and affected the ways the artistic movement.These factors are probed in this analysis.
