Toronto is one of the strong economic centres of Canada. Research studies hold that good economic centres are usually hubs of multiculturalism activities. However, Toronto was not always like this. It was a more conservative city until the 1960s and the liberal policies and economic activities of Toronto were what made it more attractive to different people. Montreal conserves French which in a way does not economically help in liberalization of economic activities. With the end of the October crises, most of the head offices of multinational corporations in Canada were shifted from Montreal to Toronto. While this directly supported the economy of Toronto, some elements also indirectly contributed to its popularity (Ellyson et al., 2016). For instance, the roadways to Toronto were well-developed and were generally considered easily extensible. Where Montreal was more of an island because of its older traffic system that cannot handle modern traffic, Toronto, on the other hand, is considered as having lesser traffic choke points. All these factors led to Toronto becoming a strong economic centre, and consequentially attracting a diverse and multicultural population in its midst.
