There are many cultural myths associated with the growth of a person and they define how the person connected with another. The myths although not true are a very strong part of our cultural make up. They provide the models of people’s value systems and their form of thinking as well. Now in this context, it is necessary for students to think beyond their cultural systems. Some students might dream about the right lie in the United States as part of the American dream and others might prize individual achievement more. The American society in fact is focused on individual achievement and gives more importance to this aspect. Some of the more commonly associated myths are also in the context of gender, competitive activity and social relationships. In critical thinking a person will over time understand how cultural myths will impede their thinking, but firstly they have to overcome the barriers that cultural myths might impose on their thinking to reach such a point.
