English consists of several vowel sounds in comparison with Chinese languages. However, they are not identical even though some vowels of Chinese are same as English. In addition, rules of pronunciation in Chinese depict that similar vowels will be sounding different in various scenarios, phrases and words. At times, Chinese speakers face difficulties in pronouncing vowels of English consistently. This is specific because in English, there is lack of regularity in the spelling system. As a result, the same letters end up corresponding with several sounds that are highly dependent on the apparent word. Speakers of English utilize stress on sentence for highlighting significant words within a sentence (O’Seaghdha et al., 2010).

At times, Chinese speakers put in efforts in providing all words correctly and fully. This makes decoding of speed difficult for the listeners in working out the intended meaning of the speakers. There is use of changed tones or pitch in Mandarin Chinese for distinguishing words having similar pronunciation. There is use of less intonation in the entire sentence in comparison with in English. This created difficulty for speakers of Chinese in learning, understanding and using patterns of intonation in English effectively. A number of mandarin speakers end up transferring their habit of final consonants in pronouncing English words. Hence, they either end up dropping the final consonant or end up adding an additional vowel by the ending of this word (Chen et al., 2007). Due to this reason, inserting final vowels and omitting final consonants in English end up causing certain misunderstandings. Some of the speakers end up to lay more emphasis upon final consonant due to negatively transferring the respective syllable structure. Due to this reason, inserting an additional vowel in the end becomes a major issue for Chinese speakers. Being highly affected by their first language, a number of learners hold the tendency of shortening diphthongs, or replacing English monophthongs for English diphthongs.
